As the daylight grow shorter and colder and the contemplative nights grow longer, I find great pleasure and treasure in looking through my Tarot collection for hidden gems. I plan on posting some of my favorites re-discoveries here.
The Derakkusu ban Hihou Tarot is truly one of those treasures. This is a deck first published in Tokyo, Japan in 1991, with delicate yet striking artwork in the major arcana and court cards. The minor arcana are simple geometric arrangements of the suit symbols.
The artwork is either by Kazumi Niikura (per the box cover), or by Mondo Oki and Mei Unasaka (per the companion book and per the Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. III). One source to obtain the Derakussu deck is the Sasuga Japanese Bookstore.
